Emergencies

Emergencies have priority at all times. If you are worried about a problem, telephone the reception and they will try to fit you in the next available appointment.

In case of life threatening emergencies, injuries or accident go to the nearest A&E Department (James Paget Hospital (01493 452452)

IF YOU NEED AN AMBULANCE DIAL 999.

A GP is always available for an emergency on (01493) 650490

Making an Appointment

Please phone between 8.00 and 9.00 on the day you require an appointment. We operate a book on the day appointment system. Appointments can only be booked in advance for up to 4 weeks ahead for the GP or Nurse. Consultation with the GP is by appointment only. An adult must accompany any child under 16.

Home Visits

Requests for home visits should be made between 8.00 and 10.00 am. 

If there is an exception or emergency, you can contact us at any time.

Telephone Advice

The telephone is often busy in the morning especially on Mondays. Your Doctor is free to take calls between 11.15 and 11.30 and 6.00 and 6.15, or the receptionists will give you a time when you ring or will take your number and the GP will ring you back when he has finished his surgery.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Teachng Practice

We are a teaching practice and you may occassionaly be asked to see a medical student or a junior doctor (F2). They will at all times be under the supervision of one of our GPs. If you would rather not see a medical student please do not hesitate to say so.

Thank you for your support in teaching our students as it is very beneficial to their learning to see real patients.
